New Sacramento County Public Health Officer Announced

Sacramento, CA – Ann Edwards, Director of Sacramento County’s Department of Health and Human Services, today announced Dr. Olivia Kasirye, M.D. who currently is the El Dorado County Public Health Officer as the new Sacramento County Public Health Officer.

Kasirye has over 20 years of experience including her work as the Medical Director of the Sacramento County Child Health and Disability Prevention program and the Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health program and as the Communicable Disease Controller.

Kasirye received a Medical Degree from the Makerere University Medical School in Kampala, Uganda. She also has a Master of Science degree in Epidemiology from the University of California, Davis. She is Board Certified in Public Health and General Preventative Medicine. She has been employed by El Dorado County Department of Health and Human Services as the Public Health Officer since August 2009.

After a rigorous statewide recruitment process, Kasirye assumes leadership in the county effective February 8, 2012.  Following the retirement of the Public Health Officer on September 9, 2011, Dr. Laurie Werner served as Interim Public Health Officer for Sacramento County from September 9, 2011 through February 7, 2012.

Kasirye will begin serving as the Sacramento County Public Health Officer on February 8, 2012.
