The CCS Medical Therapy Program (MTP) provides Occupational and Physical Therapy services for children birth to 21 years of age who have eligible conditions. Therapy is provided without cost to the family, regardless of income, at the Medical Therapy Units (see below). These MTU's are located at three sites throughout the County at Public Schools: Bowling Green MTU in South Sacramento, Orchard MTU in Rio Linda and Starr King MTU in Carmichael.
Referrals to the Medical Therapy Program (MTP) can be made by anyone, such as parent, teacher, school nurse, or physician.
Occupational and Physical Therapy Services
The goal of Occupational Therapy (OT) and Physical Therapy (PT) is to assist your child in becoming as functionally independent as possible and to improve the quality of life for the children and families served in the Medical Therapy Program.
Occupational Therapy (OT) works on small motor activities, such as hand and facial control, for improving the child's ability to perform functional daily skills, independently, such as dressing and self feeding. Physical Therapy (PT) works on large movements of the body, such as rolling, crawling and walking, to help a child improve independent mobility skills.
OT and PT also evaluate the need for medical equipment such as wheelchairs, walkers and bracing needs for the hands or feet. With the input from the family, OT and/or PT will evaluate the child and determine a treatment plan in conjunction with a specialty physician approved by CCS for the medical management of the child's therapy needs.
