DHHS Student Internships


Student Internships:

Sacramento County Department ​​of Health and Human Services is pleased to partner with many local colleges and universities to provide hands-on learning for students.  Please note that all internships are unpaidThe following student internships are available with the d​epartment. Availabilites might vary through out the year.

Social Work Interns: 

DHHS partners with CSU Sacramento, Division of Social Work to provide internships for Bachelors and Masters' level students. Students must be referred by the Director of Field Placement at CSUS.  For additional information, contact the CSUS Field Office at 278-7189.​​

Medical Interns: 

Our County health clinics often host residents and nursing students to provide basic health care services.  We also offer supervision for medical assistant, medical billing and coding, medical office administration or other eligible educational program.  In addition, we provide clinic experience to students or others who are exploring a career in the medical field. Positions depend on availabilities.​  

Pharmacy Interns: 

The Primary Care Division operates a Pharmacy where students who have completed the pharmacy program can obtain the necessary field experience to complete the program. Positions depend on availabilities. ​

​Mental Health Counseling Interns: 

Students in the master program of Psycholog​y or MFT may find internship in our Mental Health Division.  The internship provides master level experience in group, individual and assessment opportunity.

How do I apply?

  • Contact the appropriate representative as ​listed above to check if internship positions are available.  Availability changes throughout the year.
  • Contact the Volunteer and Student Intern Services Office at 875-2027 to obtain a complete application packet.
  • A DHHS representative will be in contact with you to finalize your placement.  Please note that interns are required to pass a criminal background check and/or licensing clearance.  Some internship positions which involve driving will also require a driving clearance.
